Present Day Robostangs

With a team comprised of 51 students, 2 teachers, and 35 mentors we are now more focused on organization than ever before. Each member is put into a group and each group has a student leader to manage it. No one is ever left without a job to complete, and this year everyone who has returned is twice as motivated. We are all working coheisively for the bennefit of the team and eveyone is really excited for the competitions to start.

Team Organization

The Robostangs use an organizational system that emphasizes member involvement in team functions. Each student signs up for a subcommittee. That subcommittee is led by a student-mentor team and reports to another student-mentor team. This system fosters communication between team members.



Team Goals

At the beginning of each season the Robostangs come together and determine the team-wide goals for the season. Here are just a few of those goals for the 2010 season:

  • Increase student-student mentoring
  • Improve communication between sub-groups to foster a broad range of knowledge of all team members
  • Build on relationships with other FIRST teams
  • Meet deadlines for all team activities
  • Create a brand

Current Season Awards

  • District Chairman's Award - Kettering District

    • The extraordinary outreach efforts of the Robostangs paid off when we took home the District Chairman's Awards at the 2010 Kettering University District Competition. With this award the team qualifies to attend the Michigan State Championship and is in the running for the State Chairman's Award. Great job team!

  • Innovation In Control Award - Detroit District

    • Thanks to exemplary efforts by the programming team the Robostangs left the Detroit District at Wayne State University with the Rockwell Collins Innovation in Control Award. Well done!

  • Quality Award - Michigan State Championship

    • Team 548 didn't leave the state championships at Eastern Michigan University empty-handed. Walking away with the Quality Award for our solid, well built machine.

  • Dean's List Award - FIRST National Championship

    • To recognize her for her exceptional commitment to FIRST and its beliefs the Robostangs are proud to report that team member Beth Hadley was a recipient of one of 10 newly created Dean's List awards at the national championship.  Congratulations Beth!

  • General Motors Team of The Year Award - FIRST National Championship

    • The Robostangs were recognized for their outstanding achievements at the annual General Motors ice cream social where we were presented with the coveted Team of The Year award.  Thank you to our parents, mentors and General Motors for making this possible!
